Phrase of the day! It’s a scorcher today
Phrase of the day!
Recently we’ve had some incredibly warm days in Orihuela so we thought we’d give you some expressions to talk about hot and sunny days in English.
Today’s phrase is “It’s a scorcher today!” /ɪts ə ˈskɔːʧə təˈdeɪ/
A “scorcher” /ˈskɔːʧə/ refers to an “extremely hot day.”
For example:
«Don’t forget to put your sun cream on. It’s a scorcher today!”
In Spanish, we would say «Hoy hace un calor abrasador «
If someone says this to you, you can respond by agreeing with them, using the phrase,
“There’s not a cloud in the sky.” /ðəz nɒt ə klaʊd ɪn ðə skaɪ/
In Spanish, we would say «El cielo está despejado»
This is a typical way of describing warm, sunny weather with no clouds.
For example:
“It’s a perfect day for a picnic. There’s not a cloud in the sky.”
